Tip!

A Training Session conducted by Misbun

By Dominic Lim

During the camp, the national team make a tour to Sentosa Sports Centre where PBM players are having their regular training sessions and
Dato' Misbun was so kind to give almost an hour of tips to them on the importance of skills and their physical. 24 players, both boys and girls were thrilled and full of excitement and inspirations after the sessions.

Before the session started, Misbun walked around observing them for approximately 3 minutes during their warming up stroking on the court! Then he pulled them altogether for a short briefing, probably figuring since he has limited time to spare for us, he went direct to the most important asset of himself during his prime time - the deadly Misbun chop!

Standing more than six foot with a little leap he still could send the shuttle down like a falling coconut! At that moment I was thinking what if my boys and girls can do that when they are three feet jumping in the air!

Throughout the session he emphasizes a lot on footwork, arm and the wrist power and how to send the shuttle like a speeding bullet! It was indeed a very high quality session conducted and believe me, all players were amazed including myself! Also he show the crowd how to be deceptive and to 'cheat' your opponent!

Thus, according to him, in short, badminton is a game of deception, speed & power - if you can send the shuttle fast, any corner, you are in business!

A day earlier while at the Camp Permai beach during the mental toughness camp we were, sort of comparing notes on training, of course, his naturally is of a higher intensity or standard but nevertheless the goal is the same! He trains to produce world class player, whereas PBM trains, hopefully for him!
